Sygna and Stockton Beach
Spot a Shark or 2, a Whale Breaching or Dolphins Playing.
Marine life a plenty!
Stockton Beach is home to the Wreck of the MV Sygna, a Norwegian bulk carrier stranded on the 26th May 1974, battling unsuccessfully against winds of up to185km.
The marine life along the coast is prolific……..Humpback whales travel along the marine park coastline during their annual migration north to breeding grounds, White Pointer sharks negotiate the coastline and Dolphins play close to shore.
Stockton Beach which runs between Newcastle and Nelson Bay is Australia’s largest moving sand mass and coastal dune system…..some are over 30 metres high. Years of winds, currents and coastal erosion has managed to dump massive amounts of sand all in the same place.
